Identifying the Signs of Pests
Moving to a new home can be both exciting and stressful. It is easy to neglect the little things with all the preparation, packing and transportation of the belongings from home to home. When looking for a new home, there are many things to look for, but a pest problem is one thing that still needs attention. So, what do we seek? Our pest control team is here to help you. Frayed Wires – It all too common in a new home to face a rodent problem. Chewed wires could just be a sign, so keep your eye out for this sign.
Droppings – This is another indication of pests. You normally would see them in hidden locations. Typically, the droppings are not out in the open.
Signs of Termites –Another important thing to look for is this one. Termites will ruin a home so you can avoid a lot of headaches by making sure your new house is free of termites. Look for discarded wings, tubes of mud and damage to wood. These may be signs of termite damage.
Bugs That Are Dead – Be sure to check any dead bugs around the doors or windows when you give the house a stroll. A significant buildup may be a sign that a pest control company needs to treat the building.
Signs of Potential Harmful Problems Can Be Identified:
Mice & Rats
Wildlife, rats and mice
Search for droppings of rats and mice
Listen to noises like scraping from below, behind walls or on ceilings
Chewed or gnawed cables can also suggest rodents and wildlife problems
Insects (cockroaches and ants are common pests)
A problem can be identified by live or dead insects
If outside, check for insects' holes or openings to enter the house – anything greater than one-half inch is a cause for concern
Ants Are Another Issue in Yards to Search For
Nests of bees, wasps and hornets attached to the house or the yard; look in high trees, under structural hangings etc.
Carpenter Insects
Carpenter ants may search for softer wood in order to infest; it is a good idea to have an inspection for these pest before purchasing if you find signs of damp or moisture-damaged wood.
Such pests make holes in wood and can be costly to fix, similar to termites.
Carpenter's ants have a size of around 1/4 to 1⁄2-inch and are colored black.
You may see piles of what looks like sawdust near their entry holes in areas where carpenter ants are active.
Bed bugs are typically a problem for new homes, but you must know that you might be at greater risk of bed bug problems when you buy a townhouse or condominium unit sharing walls with neighbors.
