Why Is Mosquito Bite Itchy?
The mosquitoes found a protein in the blood that helps to nourish and develop their eggs – this is the reasons why only female mosquitoes bite. The mosquitoes use several kinds of clue to find out a host like sweat, body odor etc. There are also other factors that make the mosquitoes to locate a host. Mosquito bite is dangerous and spreads diseases that are why you should do mosquito treatment.
What Causes the Itchiness?
The mosquitoes use a straw-like mouthpart to draw blood from the body. In this process they some amount of saliva containing anticoagulants and certain proteins. The anticoagulant is a component to prevent blood clotting around the mosquito’s mouth. The proteins target the immune system of the host body that releases histamine. This component increases white blood cell flow to the affected area. The increased white blood cell supply and blood flow cause swelling and inflammation. Besides increasing the blood flow, histamine also sends signal around the nerves of the bite. This signal makes the bites itchy.
When some people feel the itchiness, some feel nothing at all. Some people show reactions to the mosquito bites. People who are constantly exposed to mosquito bites may develop resisting protein. This protein makes the immune system protective to itching.
Scratching makes Mosquito Bite More Itchy
Scratching the bite area may give you comfort and make you feel good but it also makes the itch worse. Scratching makes more histamine release and it causes more swelling and itching. There are also possibilities that you are spreading the allergen beneath the skin. If needed you can scratch the surrounding area of the bite gently but do not scratch unless you bleed. It makes the infection risk severe. Scratching atop the bite makes it more painful and may cause bacterial infection.
