What Are the Signs of Mice Existence at Home?

As soon as cold weather begins, mice start to find a cozy place or house to call home for the winter. Sadly, this house could be occupied already-by you! Some consider mice to be adorable, but if they live in your place they can cause a myriad of structural and health problems. You don't want to see the mice living in your walls, shelves or lockers that spread disease and cause mess even if you would like you to have one for an animal. In this case, rodent control is the only option left.

It usually is for two reasons when mice enter your home: seeking refuge and finding food. They can squeeze into the smallest areas and search for remote areas to build and hide their nests. Mice chew through cardboard, wood, board, and wires even food containers. They leave their waste everywhere, contaminating the areas in which they live. Drops by mouse and mouse can carry humanly harmful diseases.

The first indication many times that you have a problem with mouse is that you spot your droppings. Usually, mouse droppings are about the size of a broken pencil but can be small like poppy seed if you are running around baby mice. Another sign you've got mice is chewed traces of insulation or soft material 'beds.' You may even hear their movements in the walls or shelves. It is disconcerting to say the least that the soft scratching sound is running around in the still night.

It is no easy task to prevent mice from entering your home, to spread disease and to damage your food and belongings but finding them you can call mice exterminator. Mice can get the size of a pencil into a crack or hole. You can try to prevent them by checking your home perimeter. Seek window and door openings and repair them or add door sweeps to fill any cracks under door openings. Mice don't like steel wool feeling, so it's a good filler that can be used in the fractures on or around the foundation. You can also ensure that yard debris is removed and that wood piles are kept away. Screen all food containers, including animal food, and keep waste screened.

The Signs

  • Droppings of Mice - fifty / eighty drops, little or dark (approximately three to eight mm in length), randomly scattered, inside or in front of the cupboard or skirts.

  • Grease marks – due to the brushing of their bodies against walls, floors and routes, dark spreads around hole or corner.

  • Urine traces – heavy infestation and heavy grease when combined with urine creates small mounds.

  • Nests – Mice line the nest with other soft materials by using easy to shred materials. Lofts, suspended ceilings, floorboards and cavity walls, under and behind refrigerators, in stoves and in cupboards for airing.

  • Footprint track - Unused lofts and basements are able to display rodent tracks and tail marks in dusty environments. Sprinkle meal, talcum powder or china clay for activity and check for fresh tracks on the next day.

  • Live or dead mice – A dead mouse can be a sign for a severe infestation during the day.
