Ways to Protect Your House from Harmful Rodents

You say that there is more if you see one. Much more depending on the disease. Fast breeds of rodents is evident. Rat or mouse can turn into a much larger problem quickly. Were you aware that mice are known to reproduce up to 10 litters per year in each litter, with around 6 young? And in one year a single female rat reproduce 7 litters. Rodents may not be a mere nuisance, but they may ruin your home's foundation; they may carry and transmits fatal diseases; chewed wires may cause home fires. By practicing these good habits and following these tips, protect your house against rodents. Call a rodent control service if you find one in your house.

Seal all paths of entry

In the end, your home's first safeguard against rodents prevents it from entering; but it is hard because rodents, particularly mouse, are only 1⁄4 of an inch in size through openings. Nevertheless, check your door, windows and cracks at all entry points of your home. Install sweeping doors on doors outside, repair damaged screens and seal cracks.

On the outside of your home paint a 12" band

Rat can easily scale foundations of brick or stone. To prevent the climb, paint a 12" strip of high-gloss paint at least three feet from the floor. You can also use this paint to create a band around external tubes to prevent rodents from entering your home.

Trim the Hedges and Branches of the Trees

Check your home for the branches and hedges of the tree. If any branches or hedges touch or hang over your home, rodents can enter your home. Cut branches and hacks and shorten the grass to expose the soil underneath and eliminate areas for shelter for rodents.

Store food properly

For rodents, the cupboard is a breeding ground. All food must be kept in containers that are airtight. Note that the rodents can spread deadly diseases through their saliva and remove containers that seem contaminated and chewed through it. In addition, ensure that waste is regularly disposed of and that it is no longer stacked.

Remove potential sources of food/water

During winter months, because of a shortage of food and natural resources, rodents retreat to homes. Do not forget to remove any food or water sources so that rodents do not enter your home. This includes the removal from the feeding of any unattained pet food and water and the regular disposal of waste. Know, too, that bird feeder is not only a source of food for birds, but also for rodents. The removal of bird feeders from in and around the premises would be advisable. Call Mother Nature’s Pest & Lawn for a rodent control service without delay.
