How to Prevent Mice and Rodent Invasion?
How could you do it, if you locked yourself and had to break into your house? You may have to open and crawl an unlocked window at the back of your house. Or maybe you could climb and let yourself in on a balcony. There are many ways to "break" into a house, what we try to say. But we will concentrate on how rodents enter our home in this article. And as mice and rats are smaller creatures, they can find the way into them in many ways. And you might be surprised by some of them but do not wait to call a mice exterminator.
How to Keep Rodents Away?
No Hiding Place
Rodents do not like wide open areas and naturally look for or overgrown areas. If you have high grass regions, overgrown weeds, discarded machinery or other rubbish, these will make it less welcoming for you to visit your property.
No Water Source
Make sure that your yard has no standing water, spigots, birds' bath on the doorstep, pet bowls, etc.
No Food Source
Do not leave pet food behind and clean any remaining vegetables or fruits from the gardens between feedings. Clean up food after cookouts and store garbage outside in trash bins with screening lids.
Seal the Home
If your base or walls have holes or cracks, seal them. Seal them up. Make sure that every screen and door panel is there and working properly and place proofing through a vent or a fireplace openings and wire mesh at the bottom of downspouts to prevent mice from finding their way within.
Stop Mice and Rodent Invasion
Check your doors and windows in all entry points for your home for rodent control. All windows and doors must be properly closed without leaving an intermediate gap, which could act as a point of entry for rodents. Metal kick plates may be used to bridge any gap.
The house's roof should also be checked well for rodents. Check for any breakages, gaps or leaks in the ventilators, shingles and chimneys. If the gaps are found, the chimney must be filled and the chimney must be kept tight to prevent rodents from entering the home.
The garden area should also be properly inspected so that no piles of waste or overcrowding can be a perfect place for rats to live in. If there are tree branches near the house, rodents can use them to enter your home as a passageway. The garden must therefore be well preserved.
Wherever possible, it is necessary to avoid cluttering and piling things up, as those places can be used for rodents.
Garbage in bags or containers should be kept sealed and any type of waste removed. To prove your rodent's home, it is important to take care of hygiene and sanitation.
